It will de-restrict your bike and then add more power on top.Ī local dyno tune will go beyond the BrenTune by dialing in your fuel/ignition maps to squeeze out a few more horsepower using your actual bike in your actual local climate. It will also remove certain annoying features like a hard fuel cut off on deceleration and permit you to turn the traction control off while the bike is rolling (wheelies on demand). (beyond a world spec OEM map) from an exhaust and air filter upgrade. You only need to re-flash the ECU (OEM, BrenTune or Woolich) and don't need a Power Commander (I wouldn't recommend that).Īn off the shelf BrenTune flash is going to have somewhat conservative fuel/ignition map to allow it to run safely on any bike in any climate (hot or cold) but it is tailored to get extra power I understand that the BrenTune is indeed a performance flash and not a piggy-back power enhancer like a Power Commander (which has limited benefits). ![]() That would top up the power to match a European model. The North American ECU needs to be re-flashed with a different fuel/ignition map (typically an OEM "rest of the world" tune) just to remove the high RPM power restrictions we're stuck with here. Flash tuning, or ECU (Engine Control Unit) reflashing, is an advanced process in which the software of your motorbike’s engine management system is updated or modified. I'm not a an expert in the field but this is what I've learned after researching and acquiring a number of flash tunes on a dozen cars and motorcycles over the last 20 years (mostly cars).Įverything that you've described is an ECU flash just to varying degrees or using different equipment. What is my best option to go about doing this (assuming Woolich releases whatever he will release) Overall my goal is to unlock the potential of the bike as I know this bike only makes like 165hp from the factory and I need a bit more, and I want to clean up my air fuel ratio with my aftermarket exhaust so it doesn’t run so lean at low rpm. However the way people say it, makes it seem as if normally a flash will do more than derestricting it? Does a good flash normally do more than derestricting? I’m not sure if this is true, but I’ve also heard you can just get a power commander and have someone tune it to derestrict the bike and to fix your air fuel ratios but it won’t do anything to add power? Typing that out doesn’t sound like it makes sense lol but hopefully you can help me understand how someone can tune a bike without a flash.Īnd I’ve also heard that the BrenTune Flash described as “just” derestricting the bike. Or is it more complicated than that (ie will I also need a power commander and will I need to go to a dyno to get it tuned particularly to fix air fuel ratios and such) I understand that for the BrenTune flash it appears I only need an air filter and the computer tool and they will send me the file for my bike’s setup and I’ll load it up and be done. I’ve been considering getting the BrenTune flash on my Gen 6, but I hear lots of people say they are waiting for Woolich. I’m hoping someone can help me with a basic explanation of the process of getting an ECU flash and tune.
